Last week I posted some World Series Trivia to get you psyched for the series. How did you guys do? Did you hit it out of the ballpark, or strike out? Check out the answers below!
In what year was the first World Series played?
A. 1884 B. 1903 C. 1929 D. 1975
ANSWER: B – 1903. It was between the Boston Pilgrims (now known as the Red Sox!) and the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was a best of 9 series, which the Boston team won.
ANSWER: The Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers were competing for the American League Champion Series title. Then the Milwaukee Bruins and the St. Louis Cardinals battled for the National League title.
ANSWER: 27. Although they have been in the World Series 40 times!
ANSWER: Whichever team wins the All Star Game, which is played in July. This year, the National League won, so the World Series is being played in St. Louis.
ANSWER: “peanuts and Cracker Jacks. I don’t care if I ever come back. For it’s root, root, root for the home team! If they don’t win it’s a shame. For it’s one, two, three strikes you’re out at the old ball game.”
ANSWER: Commissioner’s Cup.
ANSWER: Babe Ruth. The Babe won 7 (3 with the Boston Red Sox, and 4 with the New York Yankees). Jeter won 5, all with the Yankees.
A. $1000 B. $5000 C. 80,000 D. $300,000
ANSWER: Around a whopping $300,000 nowadays! It is all a complex formula of Major League Baseball determining percentages of the gate receipts and various other aspects. But in 2010, the San Francisco Giants, who won the Series, paid out about $317,631 per player. Players who made the playoffs get paid a good amount too, but the big bucks are reserved for the World Series winners.
Looks like I took up the wrong profession! Have you been watching the World Series? Has your home team ever won the World Series? Drop a line in the Comments below!
