Take a look at some new books coming in 2014!

I know it’s super-cold out right now, but spring is right around the corner, and I can’t wait! Not just because I’m tired of bundling up so that I look like a polar bear every day, but because spring is a time for fresh starts: new adventures, new ideas, new goals, and…new books! Yay for new books! Here are some titles I’m really excited to read in 2014.

five-six-seven-nateFive, Six, Seven, Nate (ages 10-14, out January 21st), by Tim Federle, is totally at the top of my list. I don’t know about you, but I love, love, loved Better Nate Than Ever. In this follow-up title, Nate learns that getting into a Broadway musical is the easy part: it’s making it through that’s really tough! Nate is in for some serious surprises, but he just might surprise everyone right back.

Half a Chance (ages 8-12, out February 25th), by Cynthia Lord, is also a book I am itching to read. In this new book from the author of Rules, Lucy wants to find out if she has what it takes to be a famous photographer like her father. While taking photos for a photo contest he’s judging (that she’s planning to enter anonymously), she gets to know her next-door neighbor Nate, and reveals a sad truth about his grandmother.

a hundred horsesAre you a fan of horses? Then you might like Sarah Lean’s newest book, A Hundred Horses (ages 8-12, out now). Nell, who has to spend her school vacation with relatives she doesn’t know, doesn’t realize that she’s not just going to be spending her days in boredom on the farm. An unexpected meeting with a mysterious, wild girl named Angel sends Nell on an adventure involving magic, legends, and, yes—horses!

27997f125888fd72481390330f429641Fans of A Series of Unfortunate Events, rejoice! Lemony Snicket is back with File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents (All the Wrong Questions) (ages 8 & up, out April 1st). Mysteries are plaguing the town of Stain’d-By-The-Sea. Missing dogs, falling paintings, and specters on the pier are only some of the thirteen suspicious incidents that Lemony Snicket has been called upon to investigate. I can’t wait to join him!

THE-FINISHER-cover-277x415Known to STACKS readers as the author of The 39 Clues: Cahills vs. Vespers: Day of Doom, David Baldacci has written another book for kids and it looks AWESOME. It’s called The Finisher (ages 10-14, out March 4th) and it’s an adventure story about monsters, defying the odds, and solving dangerous mysteries. Vega Jane, the heroine of this tale, lives in the village of Wormwood. When her mentor, Quentin Herms, disappears and leaves behind a mysterious message, Vega embarks on a journey to find out what lies in the dangerous forest surrounding Wormwood . . . and why no one has ever left the village. Exciting!

CastleBehindThorns-hc-cThe Castle Behind Thorns (ages 8-12, out May 27th), by Merrie Haskell, is for fans of fantasy and adventure. It is about an enchanted castle surrounded by thorns . . . and the mysterious secrets inside. I can’t wait!
