IcefallWhat it must be like to be the daughter of a king. It must be wonderful to live the life of a pampered princess, to wear a jeweled crown, live in a grand castle, and have anything your heart desires.

However, Solveig is not your average princess. The main character of Matthew J. Kirby’s latest book, Icefall, Solveig is forced to spend her winter hiding from her father’s enemies, far from home on a frozen fjord. Solveig is joined by her younger brother Harald, the heir to her father’s throne, and her older sister Asa, who spends most of her days locked in her room, as they wait out the winter with little supplies and little hope.

Solveig is soon joined by a group of Berserkers, her father’s most trusted soldiers who wear the hides of dead wolves and bears as uniforms. Solveig also becomes the apprentice of Alric, a storyteller in the king’s court, who spends time teaching Solveig the craft. But, as winter creeps in, so does a spy. An unknown intruder attempts to sabotage their stay, and Solveig is unsure if one of her father’s enemies has infiltrated their fortress, or if there is a spy in their midst.

In this tale of mystery, suspense, and forbidden romance, Solveig must uncover the traitor in order to protect her family and save her kingdom before it’s too late. If you’re looking for a book of icy intrigue to get you through the long winter months, Icefall is a must read!
