Welcome to Scholastic Booktalks where we recommend brand new Scholastic books that we think you will love. Today’s booktalk is: Ghoul Strike by Andrew Newbound.

Alannah Malarra hunts ghosts for a living. Sure, she’s still only twelve, but between her psychic abilities and the fact that she can flick fiery darts from her fingers, she does pretty well.

She and her partner, Wortley, take emails from folks plagued by ghosts and other haunting creatures, and do whatever it takes to get rid of them. The best part is that because ghouls guard treasure, Alannah and Wortley get to take the ghouls’ treasure as they send them on to another dimension.

But they are not just in it for the dough. Alannah is really looking for her parents who disappeared over three years ago in the Scottish Highlands. Nobody knows if they are alive or dead; their official status is missing. As if Alannah’s profession and parental situation weren’t dangerous enough, on her latest mission, Wortley and she ran into A.N.G.E.L. officers. For those of you out of the know, that’s Action-ready Network of Global Evanescence Law-enforcers – the Higher Dimensions’ elite army of protectors. It seems like they’ve gotten tangled up in something much bigger than helping themselves to ghostly wealth. Wortley and Alannah are in the middle of a war between good and absolute evil.
