Writing Prompt: Graduation Bear

CreateacaptionGraduation Day. Aaah. Memories in the making. As the school year winds down, maybe some of you guys are graduating from middle school, and moving onto high school? Or graduating from elementary school and moving onto middle school? Or in my case, giving myself a pat on the back for just having made it through another crazy year!

Well, as I was walking around my local party store shopping for a birthday card, all the graduation decorations got me thinking. It also gave me an excuse to dress up my favorite bear. What do you suppose he is thinking?

Here's my caption.

Bear: The diploma is nice, but I sure I hope I got some cold, hard cash in those cards!

Give it a shot, and let me know what you imagine he's thinking. Leave your Caption in the Comments below.

Create a Caption: Doggy Dog World

Createacaption Don't you wish at times you could read animals' thoughts? Like the movie Dr. Doolittle? I certainly do! I often find myself watching animals interact with each other. From dogs circling and sniffing each other to a pair of squirrels fighting for a nut, animal interactions just seem to fascinate me at any time.

One of my favorite activities in the summer here in New York City is going to the dog park and watching all the various types of dogs running and playing around, and observing how the different breeds act towards each other and how they get along. The dogs' behavior towards each other surprises me and leaves me wanting to know, "What are they thinking?" and "Are they actually communicating with each other?"

The same goes for my uncle's adorable dog. . . "What is she thinking while chewing on that toy?"

Dog

Since we can never know what is going through her doggy brain, I leave it up to you to fill in her thoughts!

Create a Caption: Spring Training

Createacaption Batter up!

Now that the football season has come to an end and Superbowl XLV has finished with a tremendous victory by the Wisconsin Bay Packers, you know what comes next. . .

The NBA Finals? Well yes, but that's not what I am thinking of. I'm talking about MLB (Major League Baseball) spring training. And what comes after that? Baseball season!

So to celebrate the upcoming season of Major League Baseball. . . I give you . . . my aunt posing in a glove!? Yes, you heard right. Just check out the photo below and add your own caption.

Writing Prompt: A Doorway Leading to. . .

Rainbow_pen Recently, a couple of my friends went on vacation, and you would not believe it! They totally neglected to take me with them! The nerve!

And not only did they head out of town while I was stuck at home, they apparently encountered a magical portal to another world during their trip! At least, that's what it looked like to me when they showed me this photo after their return:

doorway
As soon as I saw this pic, I envisioned a character pulling the door open to discover a whole new realm beyond. This road looks like it could be next to a castle, a row of country homes, farms, a deserted town, crazy upside-down houses, anything!

What do you think? What's at the end of that road? What's behind the hedge? Where do you imagine the doorway leads? Write your ideas in the Comments below!

Create a Caption: A Rose Is a Rose

CreateacaptionAs you may or may not know, the Scholastic headquarters are in New York City. I have been living here for about 9-10 years. . . yeah, very long time! A couple months ago I went with my sister-in-law to one of my most favorite places in New York - an art museum. Here she is looking at a sculpture of a giant rose. What do you guess she's thinking?

Carly's Create-a-Caption comment: "Hmm. . . I can't tell if this statue smells like a rose or hand sweat?"

Create a Caption: David the Gnome

Createacaption Hey all you Ink Splotters. . . I'm baaack! Hope you all missed me on my little break because I sure missed writing wacky and outrageous (yet sometimes insightful) posts for Ink Splot 26 and all you amazing readers.

Lately I've been seeing a ton of great trailers for the movie, Gnomeo & Juliet, and it got me thinking about my gnome buddy, David (named after an old-school Nickelodeon show, David the Gnome). Even though he's MUCH larger than the average gnome, David still loves taking care of Mother Earth by recycling, planting flowers and trees, and cleaning up the parks. Not only is David an awesome nature caretaker, but he also knows how to have a great time, as he loves to get down and boogie on the dance floor.

So as David gets his groove thang on, YOU get to fill in what he might be saying (or singing)! Write your caption in the Comments.

Writing Prompt: Winter Bear

CreateacaptionIf you live in the northeast U.S., chances are you were hit by the giant snowstorm that rolled in the day after Christmas. My town had 2 feet of snow, and some towns near me had 30 inches. My friend who lives in New York said that snow removal was so slow, that the kids on her city street built a snowman in the middle of the street! Hmmm. Fun with blizzards.

Well I took this opportunity to position my favorite bear atop the mountain of snow outside my house. Some of you may remember him in much warmer days from this Create A Caption blog. But now, like all creatures, he has to adapt to the cold weather.  Winterbear

Guinness World Records 2011 Create a Caption

Guinness_130x130 You may remember last year on Ink Splot 26, we posted a Create a Caption photo of the guy who holds the record for wearing the most T-shirts at once. It's a pretty funny picture, and your captions for it were hilarious! Well this year, it's spoons.

This kid holds the world record for balancing the most spoons on his face. I never knew that face-spoon-balancing was a world record event, but that's just one example of the kind of knowledge you can gain by reading Guinness World Records 2011, which is available now.

Write in the Comments what this kid would be saying. . . uh, if he could open his mouth, that is. . .

It Isn’t Easy Being a Sorcerer

Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel play the sorcerer and his apprentice in Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. They have to save modern day New York City from the ancient forces of darkness. As you can see from the photo below, it can’t be easy to have their jobs.

Only Sorcerers Can Do This

In The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (rated PG), Nicholas Cage plays Balthazar, who was of the great sorcerer Merlin’s original trusted apprentices. Now, stuck in modern day New York City, he takes on a new apprentice (Dave) to teach him all his tricks, and overcome the ancient forces of darkness.

Electromagnetic Fun!

In The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (rated PG), Dave, a normal-ish guy, is picked by one of Merlin’s apprentices, Balthazar (Nicholas Cage), to be HIS assistant. Dave is a physics whiz college student, who has his own lab, and does some pretty amazing experiments with electromagnetism.
