Writing Prompt: And They Got Away

Writing_prompt_generic

Today's Writing Prompt is inspired by twelfth-grader Kaitlin Martin, who won a Silver Medal in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her Portfolio. This Digital Art piece is titled "And They Got Away."

When you see this image, what do you think of? There is a man with a round Earth-like head, wearing a business suit and smiling in the background. There are two people who seem to be celebrating or waving, and there is a ghost-like image floating away trying to grab the Earth-like man.

Kaitlin Martin

My caption for this image would be:

People Celebrating: "No Pollution on Planet Green, Please and Thank You."
Earth-Like Man: "I want to be like the people on Planet Green, pollution free one day!"

Okay, now it's your turn to think of what this image means to you, and to write your own caption in the Comments!

Writing Prompt: The Sunny Entrance

Writingprompt_generic

This week's Writing Prompt is inspired by eighth-grader Mimi Shang, who won a Gold Medal in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her Mixed Media artwork titled "The Sunny Entrance."

In this piece, I see a lot of purple and blue, which are not so happy colors to me. But in the corner on the wall, there is a mirror with a reflection of a window, and there is yellow and light there. To me, that represents hope for tomorrow.

Mimishang

With this in mind, my caption for this artwork would be:

"Mom, I would love to clean the house and all, but tomorrow looks more promising."

Doing chores is something that we all probably have to do at some point in our lives, and I hate cleaning my room! But it has to get done eventually, right?

Look at this image, and find symbols you can relate to. Then come up with a creative caption and share it in the Comments for everyone to see. I know you all have some great ideas, and we want to hear them!

Writing Prompt: Between Two Worlds

Writingprompt_genericToday's Writing Prompt is inspired by twelfth-grader Rebecca Lamaire, who won a Gold Medal in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her untitled painting.

In this painting, I see mountains covered in snow like the Alps in Switzerland. I also see a garden of yellow flowers. Between the two different environments, there is a paper plane flying in the sky. When looking at this painting, I think of how different flowers and snow are, but also similar because they make the world a more beautiful place.

Rebecca Lamaire

My caption for this image would be:

"If I could fly anywhere in the world, I would fly to a place where peace exists between two different worlds because peace is beautiful."

What do you see in this painting? What does it remind you of? What emotions does it make you feel? Come up with a creative caption and share it in the Comments so other people can see your awesome art interpretation and caption-making talents!

Guinness World Records 2012 Create a Caption

Guiness_130x130_9.12 It has become kind of an annual tradition here to post a Create a Caption for the new Guinness World Records book. Two years ago, we had the photo of the guy who holds the record for wearing the most T-shirts at once. Last year it was the kid who holds the world record for balancing the most spoons on his face. They are pretty funny pictures, and your captions for them were hilarious! Well this year, it's dogs. . . skipping rope.

That's right. In the Guinness World Records 2012 book, you will find this picture of the most dogs skipping one rope at the same time.

Create a Caption: Say Cheese!

Createacaption Ugh. . . the dreaded family portrait. The matching outfits, corny poses, fake smiles, and the ongoing phrase, "Are we done yet?" springs to mind.

Could it really be worse than school picture day? Quite possibly. . .

Though it is rare for me to enjoy taking a family photo, my dad and his sisters very much enjoy striking a pose in front of the camera to create an entertaining greeting card for their friends.

This past year was their best card yet. Being that my dad is dentist, he decided to pose as himself along with his youngest sister as the hygienist and his oldest sister as the patient.

Now it's your turn to get creative and fill in the blanks! Write your Captions in the Comments.

Writing Prompt: Graduation Bear

CreateacaptionGraduation Day. Aaah. Memories in the making. As the school year winds down, maybe some of you guys are graduating from middle school, and moving onto high school? Or graduating from elementary school and moving onto middle school? Or in my case, giving myself a pat on the back for just having made it through another crazy year!

Well, as I was walking around my local party store shopping for a birthday card, all the graduation decorations got me thinking. It also gave me an excuse to dress up my favorite bear. What do you suppose he is thinking?

Graduation_bear_600w
Here's my caption.

Bear: The diploma is nice, but I sure I hope I got some cold, hard cash in those cards!

Give it a shot, and let me know what you imagine he's thinking. Leave your Caption in the Comments below.
