Coraline Interview with Dakota Fanning

Coraline_130Hey, Splotters! Jack last week blogged about The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (now a Newbery Award winner!) and beat me to talking about the Coraline movie. But just let me say, I am super excited to see the Coraline movie when it comes out on February 6th. And now, I’m beating Jack to the scoop on the video game — :P to Jack! Today the Coraline video game comes out for Playstation 2, Wii, and the Nintendo DS.

For those of you who haven’t read the Neil Gaiman book that the movie and video game are based on, I could tell you the story. But Dakota Fanning, who plays the voice of Coraline in both the movie and the video game, does it much better. So check out this EXCLUSIVE video interview with Dakota Fanning, which you won’t see anywhere else on the web until next week.

See? Awesome!

Without having played the game, what impresses me most about it is how much the graphics look just like the movie. The movie was directed by Henry Selick (the same guy who did The Nightmare Before Christmas), and Coraline was made using the same stop-motion animation technique. And I never really thought about it before, but that style of animation lends itself really well to video games. Take a look:

vs. Coraline_edit

They look almost identical! (Can you tell which is from the movie and which is from the game?)

If you think Coraline looks as amazing as I do, check back every day next week for more Coraline behind-the-scenes videos and snapshots from the film — all leading up to the movie release next Friday.

As for the video game, now all I need to hope for is my brother letting me play on his Wii!
