Cool Book Stuff: Switching Places!

Switching_places_130 As someone who’s “switched places” with my twin sister occasionally (with limited success!), I’m always interested in reading about characters who trade places with each other, either through some sort of mix-up (like in Mark Twain’s The Prince and the Pauper) or some sort of magic (like Freaky Friday by Mary Rodgers). Because hey, if a book character can one day wake up in a cool new world, maybe the rest of us can too!

Princeandpauper So I got to thinking about which characters I’d like to switch places with. At the top of my list is pretty much anyone who has attended Hogwarts, which I suppose means I wouldn’t even mind switching with Crabbe or Goyle (ew!). But hey, at least I’d be able to take a Potions class or two!

Next on my list? Amy Cahill from The 39 Clues. She gets to travel the world and uncover mysteries! Sure, she has to deal with her little brother . . . and a few other adults who keep getting in her way, but she’s smart and clever, and I’d love to see the world through her eyes.

Tradingplaceswithtanktalbott Another character I’d love to trade places with is Dorothy from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I have a big fascination with the Wicked Witch of the West (don’t ask!), and I’d jump at the chance to meet her, and to walk the yellow brick road!

Unless there’s some magic going on somewhere though, I’ll probably never actually GET to switch places with any of these characters. But I can always read books where characters get to, like Charlotte Sometimes by Penelope Farmer, or Trading Places with Tank Talbot by Dori Hillestad Butler. And who knows? Maybe someday I’ll wake up in a Gryffindor bed after all.

Which characters would YOU like to trade places with?

  1. Rachel

I would like to switch places with either:
A.Rachel Newman from Triskellion because she gets to go to an English village with her brother and have a great adventure
B.Tally Youngblood from the Uglies trilogy because she lives 300 years or so in the future and gets to use new technology.Plus, she goes on a great adventure and becomes world famous!
    or even
C.Alice McKinley from the Alice books because she has awesome best friends, loving parents,a brother who occasionally gives her good advice, and Patrick!

  2. Rachel

I would want to trade spaces with Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter because I admire her style, and it would be insanely awesome to go to Hogwarts.

  3. Jillover

I would want to switch places with any of these people:
Herimone Granger because I think it would be cool to go to Hogwarts, she is smart, and funny.
Any Cahill because she get to travel the world which is what I want to do, and has great adventures.

  4. Rachel

I would love to switch with Ginny Weasley because she
    1. plays quidditch
    2. doesn’t have snape’s rath (as much as the others)
    3. she’s a girl (it’d be kind of weird to switch with a boy)
I’d also want to switch with Talia from the Heralds of Valdemar.
and of course, my best friend in the world!
