What are the holidays without your family, your friends, the decorations, the food, the music, and — of course — the classic holiday movies? Fortunately, there is no shortage of holiday movies to fill your home and hearts with hope, happiness, and humor! Yeah, I know that sappy, but it’s the holidays . . . the perfect time to be sappy, right?
Well, if being sentimental and all emotional isn’t for you, here are some of the greatest holiday movies that are heavy on the comedy with only a smidgen of corniness.
Elf (2003): This movie certainly doesn’t need much explanation as to why it’s hilarious. The funny Will Farrell dressed as an oversized elf on mission to find his father in New York City . . . that pretty much says it all.
Home Alone 1 & 2 (1990 & 1992): What are the chances that your parents would leave you home alone on Christmas . . . twice? For Kevin “KEVIN!” McCallister, those chances are pretty good. While it seems like a dream come true to be away from your annoying family, Kevin gets more than he bargains for with the “Sticky Bandits.” Not to fear! Kevin’s elaborate booby trapping plan is here! Feathers and bowling balls and crazy glue . . . oh my!
A Christmas Story (1983): This movie is such a classic, such a success, and such a phenomenal film that it’s showing on TV not once, not twice, but for a FULL 24 HOURS starting on Christmas Eve on TBS! Now there’s no excuse not to hear these memorable lines:
- “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid.”
- “Be sure to drink your Ovaltine.”
- “Deck the halls with boughs of horry, ra ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra.”
The quote, “Some things only get better with time,” absolutely applies to this movie.
And these movies also make great holiday gifts.
