September Holidays

With the Labor Day holiday marking the unofficial end of summer, I’m feeling a little sad, so I thought I would give you happy news of fun holidays to celebrate in September. I know some of you will be celebrating the Jewish holidays this week, but the holidays on today’s list are . . . well. . . lesser known. While you might not have heard of these, I hope this list gives you a few reasons to celebrate this month, even though the carefree days of summer are but a memory.

September is . . .

  • Library Card Signup Month
  • Read a New Book Month
  • Chicken Month
  • Honey Month
  • Rice Month
  • Sewing Month
  • Be Kind to Editors Month
  • Better Breakfast Month
  • Classical Music Month
  • Piano Month
  • Good Manners Month

You might have to get a bit creative to come up with ways to celebrate these, but as you can see, the possibilities for silly party themes are endless! I’m going to throw a Read a New Book Party where everyone has to show their library card to get in. I’ll serve chicken and rice and uh, honey. And everyone will have good manners and be kind to me because I’m an editor! Yay! You’re all invited!

Leave a Comment to tell us what holidays YOU will be celebrating in September.

Tuesday Trivia

trivia_quiz2Did You Know . . .

Today in 1883, Planet Earth suffered the greatest explosion in recorded history when Krakatoa, a volcano in present-day Indonesia, blew up several times in a row. Wonder what that would have looked like from space!

Speaking of space, on this day in 1962, Mariner 2 was launched on its voyage to Venus; it would become the first spacecraft to visit a planet. Which brings up an interesting question. Are there volcanoes on other planets? Yes, there are even some on Venus!
