We’re big fans of Radio Disney’s The Next Big Thing winners 15-year-old Chloe and (almost) 14-year-old Halle Bailey! The sister duo have been impressing listeners around the world with their incredible singing abilities, performing on Austin & Ally, and even getting props from Beyoncé (!!!) for their cover of her music. In this interview, the two girls talk about what it was like winning N.B.T., their favorite books, and why it’s important to have great self-esteem. Check it out (and be sure to read our interview with another N.B.T. favorite Becky G)! Continue reading
So many books I love have been turned into movies: Harry Potter, Hunger Games, The Chronicles of Narnia, Percy Jackson . . . The list could go on and on! And while it’s super-exciting to see how different directors and actors interpret the stories and characters I’ve loved on the page, I can’t help but wonder how things would turn out if someone else played Peeta, or Hermione, or even Grover. That’s why our next Winter Reading Games event is . . . drumroll, please . . . Dream Cast! Which actors would you choose to play the characters in a movie adaptation of YOUR favorite book?
Right now I’m reading The Lost Hero from the Heroes of Olympus series. My dream cast?
- For Jason, I’d definitely pick Ross Lynch.
- For Piper, I’d cast Zendaya Coleman.
- And for Leo? Cameron Boyce, obviously!
What book are YOU reading right now? If it were turned into a movie (or if it already has been), whom would you cast to play the characters? Share in the Comments section below!
PS. Are you coming to the Readathon on Saturday? It’s going to be EPIC!

The story of Cloud 9 follows Kayla (played by Dove Cameron), a prima donna snowboarder who was just unceremoniously dropped from her team and forced to train with Will (played by Luke Benward), a former snowboarding champion who’s struggling after a career-ending wipe-out. A video capturing it went viral, branding him an “epic fail” on the Internet.
Now, as Kayla trains with Will to redeem her stature, he creates a regimen that will test her commitment to continue in the snowboarding competition circuit. Meanwhile, Kayla must somehow inspire Will to overcome his biggest obstacle — self-doubt. Together, the two learn that nothing is impossible.
I got the chance to meet Dove when she stopped by Scholastic this week to talk about her favorite books. She is super-sweet and so pretty! Watch the video.
What do you think? Will you be watching Cloud 9? Leave a Comment. And to read about a real-live Winter Olympian, meet 18-year-old Torin Yater-Wallace.

It’s the dead of winter in New York and SO. COLD. Brrrr! Best cure for wintertime blues? Sunny music! That’s why I’ve been playing Cody Simpson’s “Pretty Brown Eyes” on repeat for the past week. As you know, we are major Cody Simpson fans. (Check out this awesome video of his acoustic performance when he was just starting out!) The Australian singer really brings on the beachy vibes with his latest album, Surfers Paradise, and even if it’s totally frozen outside, just one listen is sure to warm you right up. Last week, we asked you to nominate the person or group of people that have had the biggest impact in YOUR world in 2013. There were lots of amazing nominations, but the person with the most nominating Comments is . . . Taylor Swift!

Are you a fan of Jessie? We definitely are! We were lucky enough to catch up with Cameron Boyce, who stars as Luke Ross on the show, to talk about being good to the planet and the importance of reading books—even baby books. Read more below! Continue reading
While the minions may be the most adorable members of the Despicable Me cast, our favorite human character is definitely Edith—the silly, clever, hat-wearing, and utterly lovable middle sister—so we were more than excited to interview Dana Gaier, who plays Edith’s voice in both Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. Even though Dana says she’s just a “regular teenager,” we’d argue that she’s pretty special! We caught up with the actress and asked her about everything from her similarities to Edith to her celebrity crush. (I bet more than a few of you would agree with her answer!) Continue reading
‘Twas the month before Christmas And all through the house, I was glued to the TV Like a cheese-nibbling mouse!
December brings so many things – holidays, snow, the end of the year, and of course awesome holiday TV shows! Here’s your daily guide to all things televised that we think are worth watching. Continue reading
It’s almost December, which means it’s the holiday season! December is also an exciting time of the year in Lois Lowry’s The Giver, but for a different reason. Jonas, who has turned twelve, will now participate in the annual Ceremony where he and his other twelve-year-old friends receive their life assignments. His friends Fiona and Asher are named Caretaker of the Old and Assistant Director of Recreation, but Jonas gets a very unusual assignment. His selection lands him with a man known as the Giver . . . and he begins an adventure that will change his life forever.
The movie version of The Giver will be released in theaters August 2014. If you, like me, are a huge fan of the book, you’re also probably curious to find out which actors have been cast! Great news: we have the details! Meryl Streep will star as the Chief Elder, and a few other famous names will be in there as well including Jeff Bridges (the Giver), Katie Holmes (Jonas’s mom), and Alexander Skarsgård (Jonas’s dad). Jonas will be played by Australian actor Brenton Thwaites, and Taylor Swift (!) will also be making an appearance as Rosemary.
That’s Brenton in the pic. Did you know that he is actually 24 years old? That’s twice as old as the character of Jonas in the book. How do you think this might change the story? (If you haven’t already, be sure to read the book before you see the movie!)
