FallProfile130Don’t you love this adorable pine cone owl?

Fall is the perfect time for an outdoor nature walk. It’s also a perfect time for an indoor craft session. This Pine Cone Owl craft comes courtesy of the Scholastic Teachers site, and combines both in one happy, autumn craft. You can take a nature walk to gather the pine cones or buy them at a craft supplies store.cottonowl

Materials:

  • 1 large pine cone
  • Cotton balls
  • Glue
  • Googly eyes
  • Orange construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Feathers

Instructions:

  1. Gently pull apart a few cotton balls to make them fluffy.
  2. Stuff pieces of cotton into the grooves of the pine cone.
  3. Near the top of the pine cone, glue on two googly eyes.

FallProfile130Which season are you?

Which season best represents YOUR personality? Last week, Desertchief gave you a Season Personality Quiz to determine if you a winter, spring, summer, or fall person. Okay, now we will do the results.

If you picked mostly A’s: You are a WINTER kind of person!
From unwrapping presents to snowboarding, you have the winter spirit! You love cold days and you
are attracted to colors like blue, gray, and white. Try painting your room with cool, winter colors so you can capture winter all year long!

If you picked mostly B’s: You are a SPRING kind of person!
From having a picnic to sniffing flowers (Make sure you don’t have an allergy!), you are the spring kind of person! You love warm days and you are attracted to colors like green, light red, and light pink. Put some plants in your room so you can capture spring all year long!

If you picked mostly C’s: You are a SUMMER kind of person!
From swimming in the pool to hanging out with pals, you are a summer lover! You love hot days
and you are attracted to colors like dark red, gold, and dark pink. Turn the heat up and wear shorts all year long!

If you picked mostly D’s: You are a FALL kind of person!
From hanging jack-o-lanterns to making a scarecrow, you are a fall person at heart! You love chilly days and you are attracted to colors like brown, orange, and yellow. Get a cozy earth-toned blanket for your bed so you can capture fall all year long!

What do you think? Does this quiz describe your personality? It’s funny. My favorite season is summer, but I have a winter personality. How does that work?

Austin and Ally Interviews

Posted by at 1:04 am in Celebrities | Permalink

Austin & Ally logoDo you love Austin & Ally?

I make no secret of my love for Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally, R5, Teen Beach Movie), but today I am super-excited because we have interviews from the entire awesome cast of Austin & Ally: Laura Marano, Raini Rodriguez, Calum Worthy, and Ross Lynch. There is a definite Harry Potter theme, but I was floored when I found out that one of these actors actually auditioned (and was rejected) for a major role in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone! Read the interview to find out who!

Embarrassing story
Laura: I have way too many! Ross and I were filming this PSA and we were running and jumping on this log. Ross jumps perfectly and then I jump and fall right on my face on the ground. Everyone was like, “Laura, are you OK?” and I said “Yeah, I’m fine. Let’s do it again,” and they were like, “We’re never letting you do that again!” It was so embarrassing.

Halloween Candy for Soldiers

Posted by at 1:45 am in Kid Power | Permalink

make_a_differenceSupport our Troops with Snacks!

Halloween is over and I know you have tons of candy, like seriously, way more than you need. You can use some of that candy to make a difference. Send it to U. S. troops stationed overseas. They didn’t get to celebrate Halloween at home this year, and opening a care package with your Halloween candy would really cheer them up. Plus, they might share some of the candy with local kids where they are stationed, spreading the love all over the world!

Here’s what to do:

  • Check with your parents first to make sure it’s ok.
  • Pack up your extra Halloween candy in a box.
  • Mail it to one of the addresses below (whichever is closer to where you live) by December 5.

Operation Gratitude/California Army National Guard
17330 Victory Boulevard
Van Nuys, California 91406
ATTN: Rich Hernandez

Soldiers’ Angels
Six Months of Christmas
5068 US HWY 64 East
Franklinville, NC 27248

While you’re at it, why not write a nice letter and include it with your candy? A simple “Thanks for all you do!” would make the package that much sweeter for a serviceman or woman. But remember, never give your personal information to a stranger – no last names, addresses, or phone numbers!

Leave a Comment and tell us how much candy YOU are giving to the troops.

Dove Cameron is the 17-year-old actress who plays the parts of Liv and Maddie on the show called . .  . Liv & Maddie! Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

Posted by at 1:00 am in Kid Power | Permalink

halloweenTrick-or-Treat the Kid Power Way!

Last week, you read about how Austin & Ally star Laura Marano is working with UNICEF to help improve children’s lives around the world. Today, I’m going to show you how YOU can help. On Halloween, instead of just trick-or-treating for candy, you can ask for UNICEF donations, too.

Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Ask your parents first. You can show them this letter from UNICEF to help explain the situation.
  2. Print this UNICEF label and wrap it around a box or canister.
  3. Bring your UNICEF box or canister with you when you go trick-or-treating and ask for donations to UNICEF that will pay for medicine, food, and education for kids around the world.
  4. When Halloween is over, count up your donations, hand it over to your parents, and have them send in your donations by check or money order to:
    TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR UNICEF
    125 Maiden Lane
    New York, NY 10038

Your contributions can make a big difference, and think how much more delicious your Halloween candy will taste when you know that your trick-or-treating helped to make another child’s life much, much better! Laura Marano will be so proud of you!
