Conor Maynard Interview
Conor Maynard is a 19-year-old British pop singer with a great YouTube discovery story. "I did a cover of Ne-Yo's 'Beautiful Monster,'" Maynard told MTV News. "[Ne-Yo] told a story where one of his friends called him [like] 'Yo man, isn't this kid singing 'Beautiful Monster' better than you singing it?' He was a bit like, 'Ah, no, I'll check that out.' And he was like, 'This kid does sing better than me!'"
Now, with his debut album, Contrast, already out abroad and the U.S. release coming in October, people are of course comparing him to Justin Bieber. I've heard 2 singles from the album so far, (OK, I admit to obsessively watching the videos for "Vegas Girl" and "Can't Say No" like a hundred times a day.) and I think he is more like Justin Timberlake. Sometimes he even reminds me of Michael Jackson. Either way, this guy's got massive talent!
Lucky Marie Morreale got to interview him. (First One Direction, then Austin Mahone, and now Conor? Some girls get all the luck!)

Rachel Beckwith was almost 9 years old when she heard about Charity: Water, an organization that works to get clean water to kids in Africa. Until then, she had no idea that kids her own age around the world didn’t have clean water to drink, and she was determined to make a difference. So instead of asking for presents for her 9th birthday, Rachel asked family and friends to donate $9 to the charity. She had a big goal of $300, but only made it to $220, still a pretty awesome gift!
Sadly, Rachel died in a car accident a month after her birthday. Rachel’s story spread, and people all over the world were so inspired by what she had tried to accomplish that they began sending in their own gifts towards her goal. One month later, over 30,000 people gave more than $1,200,000!

Pizza Trivia Quiz
It seems like you can get everything from a vending machine nowadays: swim trunks, cupcakes, DVDs, iPods, bars of gold, live crabs, bicycles, sneakers, umbrellas, cell phones . . . and now, customized pizza. That’s right, folks. The Let’s Pizza machine kneads dough, spreads sauce, adds toppings, and cooks the pizza of your choice, all under 3 minutes! That’s totally crazy!
In other pizza news, Brooklyn-based artist Steph Mantis has developed the “Ninja Throwing Slices,” Ninja stars made from actual slices of pepperoni pizza preserved in clear Lucite. (I wonder if there’s a vegetarian option?) Seems like pizza’s a hot trend nowadays, so why not have a little Pizza Trivia Quiz? Continue reading

Create a Caption: Saint Bernard Dogs
Recently, Scholastic asked some grown-ups to send in photos of their dogs for a special Dog of the Week contest. The sillier or cuter, the better! We loved them so much we thought it would be fun to feature these award-winning dogs in an Ink Splot 26 post dedicated to doggie awesomeness.
Take, for example, this picture of the Chatham Pack:
Now, that is one COOL dog. If I had to give this photo a caption, it would definitely be this:
“No one on the corner has swagga like us.”
What do you guys think? What caption would you give this picture? Give us your captions in the Comments!
Also, out of curiosity: which pups are cuter?

Greg Heffley Actor, Zach Gordon
You know him as Greg Heffley in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies. I met him when he came to Scholastic for a Live Chat a couple of years ago before the 1st Wimpy Kid movie came out. He was hilarious and adorable in real life, much more than Greg would be. We now have a new interview with him after his 3rd Wimpy Kid movie. Read on for Zach’s current reflections on his life as an actor, his favorite books, and his hopes for the future.
