Cody Simpson Interview
Cody Simpson's life has been a whirlwind the past few years since he moved to the U.S. from Australia to pursue a singing career. We first met him at Scholastic two years ago when he first started making some noise, and it’s really exploded for him since then. (Have you seen the video of our acoustic performance of Cody's song "iYiYi" from 2 years ago? Adorable, right?) He is a lot more grown up now (as you can see in this new video), and his life has a lot of cool perks like getting invited to Justin Bieber's birthday party, and getting court-side Lakers tickets. Recently, he came back to Scholastic to talk about his life now.
Cody: Um, a little. Yeah. Well, honestly I wasn’t like this back home. You know what I mean? I wasn’t a big artist back in Australia, so it all just kind of happened worldwide. Everything just kind of happened at once and I was just kind of like, “Wow.” You know, the world’s watching this now.
Q: What part do you like the best?
Cody: I love performing. I find that like one of my favorite things about my career. That and creating new music, like writing music.
Q: Have you been writing all along or are you doing more now?
Cody: I’ve been writing all along, but I’m definitely doing a lot more now than I used to, like up to creating the album. I’m doing quite a bit. I want to make sure that I’m involved heavily in the actual creative process and the production of the music. And, you know, I think I’m definitely doing that. So it’s good. Yeah.
Q: Are you in the studio now working on a new album?
Cody: I am. I’ll be releasing that over the summer. I have the first single from that. It’s called “So Listen” and features T-Pain.
Q: You’ve got great hair. So do you have a special hair care regimen?
Cody: Not really. Everyone expects me to have some kind of, you know, special trick or technique or whatever, and I’m just kind of like . . . I just kind of wake up and have a shower, dry it, and it’s kind of this and that. I run my fingers through it, push it back a little bit a couple times and then we’re good. You know, there’s nothing too complicated.
Q: Do you know how many girls are jealous of you? That sounds so easy.
Cody: [Laughter]
Q: Is there any place in the world that you really would love to go and see?
Cody: I would say Europe. I’d say Italy. The food and the scenery. Definitely one place that I’d love to go in the next couple years. There and to the Maldives. It’s just somewhere I think that everyone kind of dreams of going. I’m sure you’ve seen pictures with the clear water and like the bamboo huts out in the water.
Q: Who was your first celebrity crush?
Cody: Nikki Webster when I was like five. Now . . . Eva Longoria. She tweeted me the other day and I was very excited!
Aww. He's so grown up now, getting tweets from Eva Longoria!! Are you excited for the new Cody Simpson album? Leave us a Comment.
