Happy Birthday I SPY!
I SPY is celebrating its 20th birthday this year and we're partying all month long! Did you know that Jean Marzollo, the author who writes the clever rhyming riddles for the popular I SPY books actually worked at Scholastic? It's true! Jean Marzollo was the editor of a Scholastic classroom magazine called Let's Find Out. It was through her role as a Scholastic magazine editor that she met Walter Wick, the photographer who creates the unique I SPY pictures in the books. Walter had sent in a photograph of hardware store objects to Jean and the magazine's art director. Jean and Walter collaborated on many occasions for Let's Find Out. From there, I SPY was bor
n in 1991, combining the clever rhyming riddles from Jean and the beautiful photographs from Walter for a unique seek and find adventure!
Admit it—I SPY is sooooo addictive! Sometimes you just have to find that object and you won't give up till you do. It's usually that last object in the riddle too.Well, are you ready for more brain-teasing fun? In honor of I SPY's birthday comes I SPY SPECTACULAR featuring new riddles from Jean Marzollo paired with classic Walter Wick photographs!
How many of the I SPY books do you own – and which one is your favorite? Tell us in the Comments below.

We have owned so many of the books! My favorite one is the one with all the school pictures. I have advice for finding that impossible item-- rotate the book. Upside down helps, oddly enough!
