Last week’s Trivia Quiz came from Reed Alexander, the iCarly actor who started his own website about healthy living called KewlBites. Today we have the answers for how YOU can live healthier too, plus an exclusive recipe for Reed’s favorite snack.

1. Is it healthy to eat a certain amount of fat everyday, or is it off limits?
Don’t go no-fat, go good fat. This might mean replacing some of the meat you eat with beans and legumes, and using olive oil rather than tropical oils, which tend to contain more saturated fats.
2. Can I eat carbs or should I avoid them at all costs?
Some carbs are good. Some are really, really bad. White bread, white rice, pastries, cakes, cookies, sugared sodas, and other highly processed foods can definitely be bad for you. Whole wheat bread, brown rice, oatmeal, beans, fruits, and vegetables are the good carbs, so try to stick with those.
3. What’s better: Eating three large meals and two snacks daily, or six mini meals?
Six small meals will help prevent hunger attacks and random food binges. Reed says, “I try to avoid going for long stretches of time without eating. I have snacks in between meals, because it really helps me manage hunger so I’m never starving. Being so hungry that I’m ravenous is really extreme, and usually forces me to eat more than I should.”
4. Do I need to work out every day?
Yes! Every day! Reed says, “Fitness is a priority!. . .Get out and move! Pick an activity that you like and make it fun. Enjoy it! Don’t think of it like a chore! Go for a walk, swim, try out riding your bike. You don’t have to spend hours at the gym. Bring a friend, take out your pet, or listen to music that you like!”
5. Do I need to get 8 hours of sleep every night?
Reed says, “When you’re tired, you won’t have the energy to exercise and to concentrate, and it’s so easy to eat more than we should (trust me—I’ve done it!).”
6. Is all fast food evil?
Not all fast food is bad. But you have to make the healthy choices instead of going for the bacon double cheeseburger with fries and a super-size soda. Follow these tips:
- Don’t order the biggest size. Or, only eat half and take the rest home.
- Skip the soda! Choose skim or low-fat milk, fruit juice, or water instead.
- Hold the sauce. Order a sandwich or salad without all the special sauce toppings, or ask for them on the side so you can just add a tiny bit.
- Choose the low-calorie options labeled as “healthy” or “light.”
