Review: Cinderella Cleaners
Everyone loves a Cinderella story!
Cinderella Cleaners is a series about an eighth grader named Diana who's forced to work at her father's dry cleaners after school. I cracked open book 1, Change of a Dress, and was immediately hooked – and not just because it takes place in the town I live in just across the river from New York City!
For starters, Diana is what I call a "real girl." She's that realistic mix of confident and shy and intimidated and brave all at the same time. She loves Broadway musicals and even acts in her own school productions, along with her best friend Jess – that is, until her dad makes her work after school.
Working at Cinderella Cleaners turns out to be different than Diana expected, though. There are some hilarious and intriguing coworkers there, many who play a big role in the events that unfold, both in book 1 and in book 2, Prep Cool. And of course, the clothes that people drop off to be cleaned are also critical to the storyline – and to Diana's growth as a real girl trying to survive middle school, family drama, and life.
There are no vampires or ghosts in Cinderella Cleaners – but that doesn't mean there's no magic! And if you're not interested in dirty laundry, don't worry -- these books are super fresh. Try on some of Diana's clothes in our dress-up game, Diana's Clothes Call.
