Bone-logo Welcome to Scholastic Booktalks where we recommend brand new Scholastic books that we think you will love. Today's booktalk is: BONE: Tall Tales, the newest book in the BONE series by Jeff Smith.

The Bone Scouts want to hear a great bedtime story while on a camping trip with Smiley and Bartleby. Smiley has told the Bone Scouts so many stories before that they're not sure if he'll be able to tell them any new ones. Lucky for them, Smiley comes prepared with new stories! There are four tall tales in this companion book to the BONE series. Talltales

The tales include Fone Bone and Phoney Bone searching for riches after a treasure map is discovered. And the other three tales star the roughest, toughest Bone in all of the land – Big Johnson Bone! Have you ever heard the story about Big Johnson Bone's birth? Well, if you haven't, you're in for a treat! Even on the day he was born, Big Johnson was already fighting! And what about the first time that Big Johnson Bone fell in love? Many are surprised to learn that it happened at the Bone County Festival's eating competition called Gorge-a-thon. Ten years passed between the Gorge-a-thon and the opening of his trading post on rolling Bone river. And in one of the tales, you'll discover what Big Johnson was doing. Have you ever wondered why rat creatures don't have tails? Well, you just know Big Johnson Bone had something to do with it! This adventure not only answers that question but also introduces you to Mr. Pip and a dragon who throws up every time he tries to breathe fire.

Download a sample chapter and join the Bone Scouts, Smiley and Bartleby on their camping trip in this new graphic novel by Jeff Smith called BONE: Tall Tales.
