Imagine hearing kids' and teens' actual stories of times in American history like from the Civil War and slavery, the Mayflower, Pearl Harbor, or during the Salem witch trials. If you're into historical fiction, chances are you'll be a fan of the Dear America series! It's a collection of books, inspired by diaries and letters from girls who lived in different periods of American history.

Starting in 1996, there were 36 books in the original series. And this year, the series is re-launching, starting with the original first three books, plus a brandnew book. Dearamerica They are:

The Fences Between Us: The Diary of Piper Davis, Seattle Washington, 1941.
Piper's diary takes place during World War II during the bombing of Pearl Harbor when Japanese-Americans are rounded up and sent to internment camps.

A Journey to the New World: The Diary of Remember Patience Whipple, Mayflower, 1620.
Mem's diary tells about her journey to the "New World" on the Mayflower.
