YOU Write the Book Blurb: Spooky Edition
I totally loved all the descriptions you guys came up with for my first fake book cover, so I thought I'd do another one. [cue applause — thank you, thank you]
This time I went dark and spooky, since Halloween is right around the corner. Any aspiring horror writers out there?
Or, since October is Mystery Month, why not turn this into a case for a master sleuth?
Either way, have fun with this cover for a completely nonexistent book by an absolutely nonexistent author:
Now it's up to YOU to write the description for the back cover. If this were a real book, what would it be about? Leave a comment with your book blurb — if you dare. . .
— Karen, STACKS Staffer
i love that idea!

The invention had gone terribly, horribly wrong.
All he had wanted to do was prove to the community that you could control your shadows. The shadows he'd taken for his experiment, however, hadn't taken too kindly to it.
The engineer's body was never found.
Kate and Ellen, shadowless girls, are desperate to find their shadows, but might get caught up in the murder of the century...

On an unusually misty Halloween night, you stand in front of the door to an old white house, hoping to get a scare after a long night of Trick-Or-Treating with your friends. The house had been in Midtown for over 100 years, and stories about the so-called “haunted” house had been shared for generations. No one could ever separate fact from fiction, but one thing was said to be true – An old engineer named Albert Jonson lived there. No one knew the man, though, for no one had ever seen him before.
The white lights above the colorless door suddenly flicker out above your head. Frightened, as anyone would be, you gasp, and your body starts shaking from an unexpected breeze. Will you knock on the door? It’s your only choice. Once you’ve gotten to this point, there’s no turning back from the Shadow Engineer.

Gillian Robinson never liked her grandpa much, but she was totally unprepared for his death. He always spooked her, his raspy voice, his waxy skin, but now that he's dead she doesn't know how to deal with it. Then at his funeral she sees a man just appear out of thin air that looks evil, he cackles, then disappears. Does this person have something to do with her grandpa's death, and is it a person at all?

Amedeo Wilcox is a true magician, not one of those conmen with special tables and hats. His magic shows are so realistic (and why shouldn't they be? they're real!) that he gets all the fame and fortune he could ever want. But he can't handle the fame. He fakes his own death and leaves this world, his home dimension, and goes to a realm parched by the sun. He creates shade for the people there and they hail him as the Shadow Engineer and a minor god. What will Amedeo do?
