Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Movie!

Meatballs_130Hey, Splotters!

Last week, fellow blogger Nancy and I got to attend a super-awesome sneak peek event: first look at the trailer for the new Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movie (rated PG)!

For those of you who are big fans of the book written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett, you probably noticed some differences between the book and the film. First, there’s an explanation of why food falls from the sky (whereas the book never offered a reason). And, of course, the movie art is in a different style from the book’s original illustrations.

But then there are some great scenes that haven’t changed at all, like the pancake falling on the school. (How awesome would it be to have a pancake day off from school instead of a snow day?)

I can’t wait to see how the full movie compares to the book. What do you think of the trailer so far?

And if you’re dreaming of being pelted by meatballs instead of rain, read the exclusive one-on-one with author Judi Barrett, as interviewed by a Scholastic Kid Reporter.

In the meantime, we’ve got some more good news to tide you over: the author and illustrator behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs have a new book! In The Marshmallow Incident, the Town of Left and the Town of Right are separated by a dotted yellow line, and no one on either side can remember how things got to be that way. One day, an unlucky citizen crosses the line, forcing the Order of the Ambidextrous Knights guarding the border to take action. Unfortunately, the only ammunition they have around is marshmallows, 50,000 boxes worth! So begins the Marshmallow Incident . . . Sounds like we’ll have more airborne food to look forward to!
