Media Monday: Read All About It! (Write Your Own Book!)
I’ve joined a website called TikaTok which allows you to make your own book online and then print it out for free. You can even buy a professionally printed copy for your bookshelf. Or you can buy books made by other kids.
I have a great idea for a book so I’ve joined up and started, but it’s definitely more work than I expected. (Who would have thought it was so hard to write a book?!)
First, I’d like to illustrate my book, so that’s going to take some time. Luckily, I have a scanner and can scan in my pictures instead of sending them to the website to scan them for me. Then, I have to write the actual story. Do you have ideas in your head, but when it is time to write it down, your brain goes blank? Well, it happens all the time to me.
Finally, I have to lay it all out. This is the most time consuming. I have to think through all the options from the color of the cover to the layout of each page.
Has anyone out there made a book through TikaTok or know of a better site to do this? How long did it take you to finish a book from beginning to end? Aspiring authors like me would like to know . . .
