Media Monday: A New Set of Wizards Take On Harry Potter

A new set of wizards is taking on Harry Potter! So does that mean J.K. Rowling is writing an 8^th book to the series? Well, there's good news and there's bad news . . .

First the bad news; there is not another Harry Potter book being released.

Now the good news! The new group of wizards taking over the wizard world is the Russo family on Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place.

Like Harry, Hermione and Ron, the three wizards of Waverly are breaking the rules, getting into trouble, and casting spells along the way.

So we have three siblings, with the oldest being Justin Russo. I think he’s similar to Hermione. He's a talented wizard, always wanting to learn new spells, and always beating the others to answer the wizard questions correctly. Some might call him a know-it-all.

The middle wizard is Alex Russo. She’s spunky and daring and reminds me of Harry. Though she is an extremely impressive wizard, she often looks for ways to break the rules of wizardry and finds her way into trouble. Regardless of her sometimes careless ideas, she is by far my favorite character on the show.

Then there’s Max Russo, the youngest, who reminds me of Ron. Max is often the sidekick to both Justin and Alex, bringing creativity Justin thrives on and mischievousness that Alex loves. If Justin and Alex are fighting, you can always count on Max’s humorous personality to lighten up a room and crack everyone up.

Though this triple threat will never replace Harry, Hermione and Ron, they are extremely entertaining and definitely would give Hogwarts a run for its money!
